Nicos Argillet (Author - Director) is a sociologist trained at La Sorbonne and a self-taught documentary filmmaker. For over fifteen years, his work has taken him to some of the world’s most remote and fragile regions — from Alaska to Greenland, Vanuatu to Papua New Guinea — where he has written and directed more than thirty creative documentaries exploring social and environmental issues. His films have been broadcast by major French TV networks such as ARTE, CANAL+, and France Télévisions.

In 2016, he directed Cirque Hors Piste, a poetic portrait of contemporary circus artists, awarded the Culture Award at the Lauriers de la Radio et de la Télévision.

His long-standing engagement with French Guiana began in 2005 and deepened through multiple documentaries, particularly along the Maroni River. His most recent feature-length film, Varado – The Curse of Gold (2023), investigates the entangled legacy of gold mining in the Amazon basin. The film was selected at the Hot Docs Forum in 2021 and has since been awarded a Star by the Scam and the Grand Jury Prize at FIFAC.

Nicos is also active as a Director of Photography, and has collaborated on several creative projects with a strong human and artistic dimension.

He is based in Avignon, where he co-founded FINK, a post-production and writing studio, as well as Fink Formation, a training initiative for professionals in cinema and television.
